Basic Short Dress

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

A dress will give any girl a feminine touch. But we are just so comfortable with our jeans and t shirt, we get lost in it sometimes. There are a few things on how to choose a basic short dress without looking too all -dolled-up but yet still feminine.

A basic short dress is usually just above the knee or knee length. It could be with sleeves or sleeveless. Pick what’s comfortable for you. Wear it just like that on your casual days. Hang out with friends or just out for a movie. This look will give it a casual yet feminine touch. Mix and match your basic short dress. Wear it with a pair of black stockings and accessorize; it will change the effect of the dress on you and voila! you are ready to go for a dinner date. Not too formal but simple and nice enough to show off your style and personality.

Oh and don’t forget your shoes. My favorite is to wear a slingback (stiletto heel with strap) or if you are wearing black stockings go with pointed toe pumps. The finishing touch to your appearance.

In Style #1

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

I am sure lot’s of people would like to know from time to time, what is in style or what’s “IN” so that they won’t look outdated. On behalf of all the girls out there, YES! me too :) . BUT, just because it’s is the in style does not mean that it will look good on us.

I remember back in the days when the wrinkle or crumple material was “in”, i had to be out. Call me a neat freak but i just can’t walk around looking like i haven’t iron my shirt yet. I can’t seem to find a way to look good in it. Oh! i remember, some people told me that it is a great material that you don’t have to iron and you would look good. Hmm… makes me wonder.

Another dangerous look would be floral prints. Have to give that a pass too. Always made me feel like if i chosen the wrong design, i will be walking out in my grandma’s clothes. Especially with the big floral prints, stay away from that. If you really have to, it is safer to go with smaller prints. Gives it a sweeter impression and most people can carry it off. However you need to be careful on that. It can still make you look like you are wearing your grandma’s clothes when chosen wrongly :P

The tip is be careful when you choose any type of motif on a piece of clothing. Be it a floral, pattern, animal prints, asymmetrical, etc. You can see it looks great on models but in real like it can turn out to be a disaster.

Fashion changes all the time and fast too. Wear what suites you. If floral is not your thing, try to play with colors instead. Shear is too sexy for you, try to find a similar design and go with solid colors. Long top as a short dress is too short for you. Go with a pair of leggings, snap on a funky belt. All these are just little examples on how you can play around with mix and match and stay “in trend”.

Babydoll Cut

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

A formal term for babydoll would be empire silhouette. It is created by wearing a high-waisted dress or top, gathered near or just under the bust with a long, loose skirt, which skims the body. The outline is especially flattering to pear shapes wishing to disguise the stomach area or emphasise the bust. The shape of the dress helps to lengthen the body.

Whether it’s dress or just a top. It flatters most body size, no matter if your thin, plushy or in between. Some people thinks that the cut can make you look fat. In many cases it depends on what you wear it with and how it’s design. Some of you, is not use to how it’s suppose to look and always says it makes you look pregnant. To me, for the thinner girls it just adds volume and for the plushy girls it covers. Find what suits you.

The basic bottom to go with a babydoll top would be bootcut or skinny jeans. Leggings can be a option too. Basically it has to be tight at the bottom. It will even out the body, as i mention above. You can also wear it with a mini skirt. It will look real cute (especially for the shorter girls). Or for that more sophisticated look, a long skirt (this only apply to taller girls, they have the length to carry it off). It doesn’t matter if you’re tall, short, small, big, a babydoll cut can make anyone look good and feeling comfortable.

Let i . candy style for You!

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

I would like to share with you the most enjoyable part of my job. I enjoy styling for my customers. You might wonder, what is that? It simply means that I like to dress people up. Which one of us girls do not want to look good? And not just looking good to yourself, but it is just as important to look good to others as well ;)

It has been a busy week @ i . candy. I have received wonderful comments from our customers. It always feels like the hard work is worth it to hear that our customers are satisfied with our service. Our staffs are equally happy with the response and feel motivated and contented with their job. :)

There were times when I was serving a whole lot of people at the same time and all was waiting for me to style. I was alone, and not enough of me to go around. Sigh! But i enjoyed every moment of it. It was loads of fun. And it gave me a chance to get to know my customers more. Girls being girls, all was chatting in the store and waited patiently for me. Thanks! girls for being so patient with me.

I realize that not everyone knows what they are looking for when they step into a store. Sometimes what you choose may not look good on you. I try to observe what customers like and what suits their style. Coming from a 3rd person it could be clearer. A lot of times, it is hard to imagine how a piece of clothing would look like if it’s just hang on a hanger. I’d usually suggest to the customers to try it on. That way, you will know the exact fit, design and the look altogether, not to mention how the fabric feels. On top of that, you’ll also be able to visualize what shoes to match or what type of accessories you can wear with it.

My hard work pays off when i see happy people looking good and comfortable walking out of my store. That reminds me, I have quite a number of customers that try on something, bought it and wore it straight away. Some were going to work, some was going on a date, dinner, gathering, clubbing, etc, I don’t know. But I know they definitely walking out looking like an i candy!

A Garment Has It’s Price

Monday, May 5th, 2008

How do you determine how much does 1 garment cost ?

What most people look at is the design and quality. It is a subjective choice, simply because all of us have different taste and different criteria. Some of us may think, as long as I like the design it doesn’t matter what quality it is, while some of us purely go for quality.

What is quality ?

Some people would think that branded stuff is of good quality. That is actually not the case at all times. Unless you go for haute couture, most garments are mass produced and quality may be compromised. Also, for the same type of fabric there are grades for it, be it cotton, rayon, chiffon, or spandex, all fabrics has its grades. So, just because a piece of clothing is branded and made of rayon, it doesn’t mean it’s high quality rayon. You’d probably have to feel the fabric yourself to find out.

So when you go shopping, and you ask yourself, how come some fabrics feels thin and some feels thicker or smoother although they come from the same type of fabric, now you know why. And why some branded clothes feel flimsy and some not-so-well-known boutiques have tops and dresses that feels great on your skin. And why the branded clothes are sometimes cheaper than the not-so-well-known boutiques. Don’t get misled by it. Quality fabric is a price you have to pay for. You’ll have to feel it yourself to know the difference.

And what happened to the right cut ? No one really bothers to think about that. For those who are slim, it probably isn’t a problem at all since most cuttings fit them perfectly. But for the most of us that doesn’t have a size 24 waist, it would either be too lose, too wide, strap falling off, spaces in between and other problems. It is still important to find the right cut for your body size. So let’s not forget that finding the right cut is as important as any other considerations when looking for the right top or dress. And of course, quality cutting that fits most people, not just the slim ones, comes with a cost.

For plushy people, the challenge faced when looking for the perfect fit is usually about the cut. The right cut can do so much to emphasize you body or hide whatever you do not want to be seen. The right cut can transform you into an eye candy. :)
