How To Be Stylish, Basic Fundamentals

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

Gore Vidal said “Style is knowing who you are, what you want to say, and not giving a damn”. Being stylish takes time, patience, but above all, practice.

How to get dressed in 5 minutes. Basic fundamentals.

  1. Location: Keep where you’re going to in mind, so that you can prepare what look you want to achieve depending on the destination. In an extreme example, you don’t want to end up in a masquerade ball wearing a bunny costume!
  2. Preparation: Failing to plan is planning to fail. Adhere to this concept and nothing will fail you, even fashion! :) The same principle applies to public speaking, work, and numerous other things as well, so take your time in planning your outfits, according to the target destination. If you find yourselves with no time, you can plan the outfit in your mind while you shower too!
  3. Facial Appearance: Make sure your teeth’s brushed, flossed if needed and it’s VITAL to ensure that your breath smells nice :) . Learn a make up routine, and continually practice so you don’t have to think, you just know what follows what. Foundation, concealer, blusher, mascara and lip gloss are your basic needs for a flawless makeup routine. Make sure to check your make up in natural light after you’re done. You don’t want to walk out looking like a ghost :P . Artificial lighting can be misleading at times, trust me.
  4. Shoes: Pick a pair of shoes that matches what you are wearing. At the same time, if you are going to be standing all day, make sure it’s comfy. Nothing beats a pair of sexy stilettos, but if you have to stand all day, you might want to rethink it again – if you want to be vain, you’ll have to suffer the pain.
  5. Point of focus: Less is often more. Choose a point of focus and accessorize around this. Randomize that point of focus. It could be your legs one day, arms another, butt on Sundays, and a plunging neck line that shows of your sexy cleavage in that annual company dinner. You want to look simple and nice and not appear to be trying too hard, so try not to have more than one point of focus.
  6. Practice: And last but not least, the most important ingredient – practise, practise, practise! I don’t have to repeat that practice makes perfect, and like thousands others that will vouch along with me, practice works! The more you do it, the less you’ll need to think and plan ahead. Practise everyday and one day you will just go through the motions automatically – step 1, step 2, step 3, and all the way until you’re finally done, effortlessly. And you won’t even realize you’re doing it anymore!

But before stepping out of the door, check yourself out in the mirror. Make sure everything is in place and you are ready to go.

There! With lots of practice, one day you’ll be able to put together your own stylish look that shows your character and individuality. All the best!

What Make Up Can Do For You

Wednesday, June 4th, 2008

I want talk about make up and what it can do for you. Most of us are just lazy and don’t want to be bothered by it, or simply just don’t know how to do it. Make up can add flair to your appearance. You can wear make up and still look natural. You just need to know some tips and tricks on how to highlight your features.

To look natural, apply black eyeliner on top of your eyelid closest to your lash line. Apply mascara, blusher and lip gloss and you are good to go.

With eye make up, it’s a little hard to explain here. But you can add 1 color on your eyelids and repeat the steps above. It will give you some color to match what you are wearing.

You can do make up everyday with this few simple steps. Always try to brighten up your eyes so you won’t look sleepy when you are working. Blusher will give you color to your skin tone so you don’t look pale. Glossy lips will give you a sweet smile. Don’t forget to apply foundation before you start the steps above.

These few simple steps can highlight your features without putting on a lot of make up and it’s fast and easy to do.

Black Stockings

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

What’s up with black stockings? I’m not talking about black pantyhose, but stockings, thick ones. I’m sure you seen them around lately. Teenage girls are wearing it up to their knees, some are cut off at the ankle. Hmm… if you are thinking this is not the style for you, you are probably right! it’s not for me either. BUT, even though it may not be right for you, you still can make a pair of black stockings look cool and sophisticated!

First there are a few types of black stockings. They’re some that is half, which is knee length, above or below the knee. They are some that is long and cut off at the ankle (looks like a pair of leggings). These are mostly what teenagers are wearing nowadays. And lastly, there is full pantyhose style that is suitable for all ages. This is what I’ll be talking about in this post.

They are a lots of different types of designs. There are patterns, flowers, stripes, whatever you can find. You will need to be creative in this area of mix and match. One wrong move, you can look like a cosplay girl (girls dressed up as Japanese anime character). What should you wear with a pair of funky black stockings with design? Pick a simple dress, best if it’s just 1 color. The stockings will make it look funky. You don’t want a lot of things “happening” in your attire because you don’t want the both the dress and the stockings to appear too loud and take the attention away from you. They’re supposed to be accessory, not a subject for people to talk about. But I digress. From just a plain dress, a pair of funky stockings can jazz it up. Simply throw in a long necklace and a pair of earrings, and you are ready to go!

My favorite is just a pair of plain black stockings. As i mention above, for funky stockings you pick a simple dress. For the plain stockings you can match it with a funky dress. Or either way is fine. You can even wear it with a pair of shorts. That is one of the style of jazzing up. I like it cause it covers your legs, for those who don’t have nice legs to show off (I’m one of them :P ) It keeps you warm if you are cold too, especially in extra-freezing offices or cinemas. I would recommend this if you are wearing a really short dress. It gives a illusion that your dress is not that short. Or for some that doesn’t want to show a lot of skin, it works well too.

Last but not least, it looks best with a pair of pointed toe pumps or strappy black heels. Try to wear something that doesn’t show your stocking lines at your toes. Black heels will camouflage the lines.

A simple black stockings can make you come out looking cool, trendy and yet sophisticated !
