How To Be Stylish, Basic Fundamentals
Monday, June 23rd, 2008Gore Vidal said “Style is knowing who you are, what you want to say, and not giving a damn”. Being stylish takes time, patience, but above all, practice.
How to get dressed in 5 minutes. Basic fundamentals.
- Location: Keep where you’re going to in mind, so that you can prepare what look you want to achieve depending on the destination. In an extreme example, you don’t want to end up in a masquerade ball wearing a bunny costume!
- Preparation: Failing to plan is planning to fail. Adhere to this concept and nothing will fail you, even fashion!
The same principle applies to public speaking, work, and numerous other things as well, so take your time in planning your outfits, according to the target destination. If you find yourselves with no time, you can plan the outfit in your mind while you shower too! - Facial Appearance: Make sure your teeth’s brushed, flossed if needed and it’s VITAL to ensure that your breath smells nice
. Learn a make up routine, and continually practice so you don’t have to think, you just know what follows what. Foundation, concealer, blusher, mascara and lip gloss are your basic needs for a flawless makeup routine. Make sure to check your make up in natural light after you’re done. You don’t want to walk out looking like a ghost
. Artificial lighting can be misleading at times, trust me. - Shoes: Pick a pair of shoes that matches what you are wearing. At the same time, if you are going to be standing all day, make sure it’s comfy. Nothing beats a pair of sexy stilettos, but if you have to stand all day, you might want to rethink it again – if you want to be vain, you’ll have to suffer the pain.
- Point of focus: Less is often more. Choose a point of focus and accessorize around this. Randomize that point of focus. It could be your legs one day, arms another, butt on Sundays, and a plunging neck line that shows of your sexy cleavage in that annual company dinner. You want to look simple and nice and not appear to be trying too hard, so try not to have more than one point of focus.
- Practice: And last but not least, the most important ingredient – practise, practise, practise! I don’t have to repeat that practice makes perfect, and like thousands others that will vouch along with me, practice works! The more you do it, the less you’ll need to think and plan ahead. Practise everyday and one day you will just go through the motions automatically – step 1, step 2, step 3, and all the way until you’re finally done, effortlessly. And you won’t even realize you’re doing it anymore!
But before stepping out of the door, check yourself out in the mirror. Make sure everything is in place and you are ready to go.
There! With lots of practice, one day you’ll be able to put together your own stylish look that shows your character and individuality. All the best!
