Colors That Compliment Your Skin Tone
Tuesday, July 15th, 2008Let’s face it, most colors out there just aren’t for everyone. Depending on your skin tone, you might not be able to pull off bold colors like hot pink, turquoise or lime green that are in trend at the moment. It’s definitely frustrating when there’s a hot trend that you just can’t seem to wear. So you have to learn how to compromise and compliment.
What colors compliment your skin tone? I know a lot of girls will have that question when they see a color they like but unable to buy that color cause it doesn’t look good on them. In some ways, it’s true. Don’t force yourself to buy something that does not compliment you, because somehow it will come out awkward. But you can opt for similar colors, as in try the same color but either pick a lighter or a darker shade.
There is a general rule for picking out a color that’s in black, brown, neutral hues, like beige, taupe and tan. Best to choose the colors 3x darker or lighter than your skin tone. Otherwise you would look washed out.
For those with fair skin tones, bear in mind not too look too pale with the lighter colors. If you are picking a neutral color, go 3x darker. Example: if you are wearing white, go for off white instead or creme color. It flatters your skin tone like adding a shade to it.
For those with darker skin tones, light colors will give you contrast, while dark colors will be more subtle. Best to pick a color that is in the middle.
Do remember that dark colors will add contrast to fair skin. It’s pretty safe for all types of skin tone. The dangerous colors are bright bold colors which you will find it popular during Summer.
Know what range of colors you belong to. Cool color or earthy tones. Blue, green and violet & white are consider cool tones. Brown, peach, yellow & orange are consider earthy tones. These are just a few examples for you to refer to what are the tones. Most fair people are under cool tones and darker ones are under earthy tones. Despite all the mumbo jumbo colors and getting confused over all those colors, don’t worry if you can’t wear a certain color. Example: if blue does not compliment you, don’t be disappointed cause there are many types of blue out there. The trick is go for lighter or darker shade. Example: light blue does not compliment dark skin, instead go for mid to dark blue.
Be adventurous and try out new colors, don’t get stuck with the same old boring ones
